Summit Utilities is proud to offer the Summit Heating Assistance Fund for customers in the Arkansas Oklahoma Gas (AOG) service areas. This heating assistance fund will provide financial assistance to customers who are struggling to pay their heating bills. Contributions for the fund come from Summit Utilities, Inc., the parent company of AOG, and customers who generously opt-in to donate to the fund on their monthly bill. Summit matches all contributions dollar for dollar. The fund is administered through the United Way of Fort Smith. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by an individual’s or corporation’s circumstances.
As a company, we are only as strong as the communities we serve, which is why we support our service areas by offering programs to help those in need. The Summit Heating Assistance Fund is one of those programs. The program provides AOG customers with up to $200 to pay past due natural gas bills during the heating season, January 6 – March 28, 2025, or until program funds are depleted.
Additional payment assistance programs are available through LIHEAP and other state and federal assistance programs. AOG also offers payment options such as flexible payment arrangements, AutoPay, and Average Monthly Payment (AMP) plans. Learn more by visit our Payment Options page.
Program funds are administered by the United Way of Fort Smith Area (UWFSA). In order to receive funding, the UWFSA will require:
Proof the applicant is an Arkansas Oklahoma Gas (AOG) customer. This can be supported by providing the seven-digit account number. The account number may be obtained from an AOG billing statement, located at the top right corner of a bill.
The Summit Heating Assistance fund cannot assist with the following scenarios:
Making payments toward accounts that were inactive, or any account that had been closed over 30 days.
Provide payment assistance toward deposits, connect fees, etc.
The person who is applying for heating assistance must be the same as the customer of record on the account.
The United Way of Fort Smith Area will utilize the ALICE Criteria to determine if the customer qualifies for heating assistance. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These income requirements take into consideration earnings and monthly budget in an attempt to expand qualification for assistance to those who are above the poverty line but are struggling to make ends meet.
